Lay-offHe sits in the bookstore,  staring out into space.  His fingers curl around his coffee cup,  but his mind floats away.   
He worked in the warehouse  for 20 years or more.  Working harder than he could,  trying to support a family.   
The kids are out on their own,  the wife left unseen around here.  The man sits alone,  staring off into space.   
The economy has turned down,  budget cuts in the schools.  Companies are merging,  companies are liquidating.   
He wants to go to work,  needs money to keep going.  He was laid off last wee Lay-off

Jacob the Ninja Ducky-Chpt. 3Jacob waited, confused.  Hailey seemed amused.  He looked up to the ship,  unable to imagine the coming trip.  He was to set sail,  he wasn’t to fail.  Why was this trip necessary?  What reason had the fairy?   
The captain hailed his crew,  and the ship nearly flew.  Where the treasure would lie…  and the pirate he would defy…  Hailey would lead him,  even if the way was dim.  What was he after?  Why did he hear laughter?   
“In what direction do we head?”  asked the captain to be led.  Jacob looked at his carrot, &nbs Jacob the Ninja Ducky-Chpt. 3

Pirate Vacation       What's with this envelope?  I ask myself as I walk back into the house.  There's no return address on it, and it feels like there's something inside.  Who could've sent this to me?          I take a seat on my living room sofa, holding the strange envelope in my hands, staring at it.  It doesn't feel like there's a bomb in it, I tell myself.  I guess I should open it...I tear the top off and dump the contents onto my lap.  Sitting there is an eye patch and a note:

Well, it looks like I won't make it to the 50,000 word goal for national novel writing month by the end of November...but, thanks to my character's insatiable curiosity, I have broken 10,000 words for the very first time! Also, my story's not close to being finished! My main character is learning about history, and is just beginning to see where the antagonist (my queen) is coming from. Will my character side with the antagonist, or will she stick to her convictions? Only time will tell!

The cats are getting along better...thankfully. I've started teaching again. I'm teaching from 10:30 am to 12:20 am, and 8 pm to 9:50pm. The classes are Monday through Thursday, and the last day of class is June 18. I still have most Fridays off, but might tutor every once in a while, like last Friday. My mom says she might wait until June 19th for her birthday dinner since I have final exams on her birthday. It's been a week and a half since the mini-term started, so the mid-term is coming up already. Everything happens so quickly...
